Yon Motskin is an Emmy-nominated, New York-based director, writer and creator.
At the intersection of fiction and documentary, his work is known for its bold visual style, cinematic storytelling, wit, and deeply human characters.
Yon began his career as a theater actor and photographer, and now directs high-profile films and series for global streamers and premium clients, frequently collaborating with both A-list talent and real people. He directed and produced Encounters for Netflix and Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment, which premiered at #1 in the U.S. and remained in the Global Top 5 for over two weeks. His latest film for Netflix and Condé Nast will launch globally in 2025.
Other recent projects include Age of A.I. with Robert Downey Jr.; the critically-acclaimed Dirty Money (NETFLIX), with multiple Academy and Emmy winner Alex Gibney and Fisher Stevens (Beckham, Succession); the stylish, Instagram-age “con artist extravaganza” Generation Hustle (HBO MAX); The Family (NETFLIX), starring James Cromwell; and How to Fix a Drug Scandal (NETFLIX).
In scripted, he is directing the feature Don’t Mind Me, a satirical sci-fi love story. He wrote the feature Ethel for 2929 and Emmy-winner Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men, Handmaid’s Tale), and has directed T.V. for NBC, FOX and USA. He launched his career with The Cutman, an award-winning short produced by the legendary D.A. Pennebaker (Bob Dylan’s Don’t Look Back). The film premiered at Sundance and was invited to screen at Tribeca, SxSW, Cannes Cinefondation, Lincoln Center and over 40 film festivals worldwide.
Yon is developing a comedic spy thriller and a film about a sex icon. He's developed projects with A24, HBO, Google, Antoine Fuqua, Questlove, and Concordia, among others, and has directed projects about fashion, food, tech, sports, science, cars, politics, photography and music.
